 JANUARY NEWSLETTERS

NEWBORN

Happy New Year!

December was an exciting month in the infant and baby rooms, and as we begin the New Year, we are welcoming are some new friends to the infant room; while Colin, Gabby and Joseph are moving up to the next room.

Each month in the baby room we focus on one color, one shape and some American Sign Language (ASL) sign to teach the children. This month we will be focusing on blue, square and the sign for "thank you."
We hope everyone had a great holiday and we look forward to seeing you!

TODDLERS

Greetings from the Toddler Room! I can't believe how fast December flew by. Our puppet this month is ‘Barry Blueberry.’ Here is the song we will be singing with him.

Barry Blueberry  (Tune: Are u Sleeping)

Barry Blueberry, Barry Blueberry
Bounces high, bounces low
Barry's our new buddy,Barry's our new buddy
Say hello, say hello.

The color of the month will be blue and we will be doing a lot of projects including that color such as blue shakers, Barry Blueberry puppet, blue suncatchers, and painting with the color blue. The words this month that we will be working on are bed, boots, hats, and castle. This month's theme is Let's Make Believe and we will be focusing on pretend play and my friends will explore a variety of topics. Well that's all for now.

TERRIFIC TWO'S

Happy New Year!
First off, we would like to say thank you to the parents who contributed to our Holiday Party with Miss Amanda's class! And a special thanks to the parents who brought in favorite books for our December themes!

This past month we had a blast making our ceramic ornaments, fingerprint Menorahs, hand & footprint reindeer, wreaths made of construction paper and our macaroni candy canes. We especially went bananas while making our gingerbread men out of pom-poms, glitter, tissue paper, googly eyes, buttons, etc. We also enjoyed doing finger plays such as Nine Little Reindeer, I'm a Little Dreidel and Jingle Bells. The books we read this month include Tacky the Penguin and Sammy Spiders First Hanukkah.

For the month of January our theme is Run and Play! We will be introducing winter games, activities and exercises! Our goals are to help provide opportunities to express creativity and imagination, to improve large and small muscle skills and to practice safe behavior.

A few books we will be reading are Tumble Bumble by Felicia Bond, From Head to Toe by Eric Carle, All You Need for a Snowman by Alice Schertle and The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss. We'll also focus on two favorite Nursery rhymes; "Hey, Diddle, Diddle!" and "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes." We will be using the color blue in a lot of art work as well! Art activities include, painting with large and small spoons, blue collages, easel painting, painting/gluing with craft sticks and making snowmen/mittens. Science activities include exploring bowls and spoons; what sounds are made?, watching different types of balls in the water; sink or float?, and making goop. To help improve our large and small muscles we will use playdough, practice crawling on blue tape, dancing on a 'foot' path and explore the opposites over/under with a bean bag.

Feel free to suggest any stories, songs, or exercises that go along with our theme!

Thanks,
Miss Kristen & Miss Stacy

YOUNG THREE'S

The children are back to their routines and enjoying school.  We have had lots of fun with our theme this month, SNOW.  The children made snowballs out of newspaper and yes, we had a snowball fight.  The children also buried me in snow (actually newspaper balls).  We are hoping to have some snow and actually go outside and make our own snowman.  We also have read, The Mitten, The Hat, and The Gingerbread Baby, all illustrated and written by Jan Brett.
The children continue to work on cutting with scissors, identifying shapes, and counting to 12. A new thing we started this month is the alphabet.  Each week we will work with a letter.  We eat foods that start with the letter of the week, we make our own letters and we hide the letter of the week around the round for the children to find.
Next month we will continue the letter of the week and continue to work on age appropriate skills.  Potty training will also continue.  We will have a Valentines Party and do a focus on The Flannel Board and story telling.  The children will also make their own puppets and put on a puppet show.  Most of all they will have lots of FUN. All your children are wonderful and everyday they make us smile and laugh!

OLDER THREE'S

During the month of January, the children have been involved in many different activities. The children are starting to learn the alphabet, one letter a week. They are also doing some fun crafts such as shimmering icicles, ant farm, lacing mittens, q-tip snowflake, marshmallow snowmen, and snowy handprint tree. We are also encouraging cutting in the class to help build fine motor skills. Every Friday we will be doing a cooking project. We try to coordinate the cooking project with the letter of the week. Every Wednesday we will be doing Show and Tell! Please try to bring in something that starts with the letter of the week. Feel free to bring in as many things as you would like! Dental Health week is coming up in February and we are planning to get a dentist or someone from the dental office to come and discuss the importance of brushing your teeth. We will also be focusing on cutting shapes/cutting on the line and continuing the alphabet.
